Sukhothai

A guaranteed taste driven trip to Thailand and back!

Journey: Sukhothai is an authentic Thai restaurant located in Le Meridian. They’re well known in the local circuit for their fabulous food and luxurious ambience. We decided to have a go at their Iftar deal last evening and boy, were we pleased. A 4 course meal priced at a humble AED 129, this was surely worth it.

Ambiance:
The restaurant is located inside the Le Meridian hotel. So you have to really navigate your way from the parking and on your way there you’ll probably pass by all the other popular restaurants, till you actually get to Sukhothai. The restaurant’s design and decor is set deep in tones of dark polished wood work along with gorgeous carvings and patterns. Beautiful antique sculptures and paintings surround the tables that are placed in the centre of the restaurant. With light instrumental music, the smell of lemongrass and fresh wood wafting through the air we really felt the true Thai ambience setting in.

Golden Treasure: Chicken Satay

Bite Board:

Being a set course Iftar Meal [AED 129] we were served with the following dishes:

A P P E T I Z E R S

Chicken Satay served with peanut sauce: This was one of the best satays we’ve had so far, as the chicken was soft and succulent as well as complemented the sauce provided.

Fish Cakes: This was something we tried out for the first time. It tasted a lot like stuffed cutlets. This one was really packed with flavours and surprisingly did not taste like fish. So even if you’re not a fan of fishy dishes, you’re probably going to like this one!

After the appetizers, we were then served the Tom Yum Soup. The soup was power packed with tangy and spicy flavours. It was so tangy that it probably leaned way into tomato sauce territory, almost losing the plot for authentic tom yum soup. However, overall it tasted great!

Next up on our menu was the main course which was a serving of the staple sticky white rice accompanied by the red thai chicken curry. Both the dishes complemented each other perfectly and sure enough, this was just as yum as we expected.

We were also served a lovely dish of Fried Hummour with sweet and sour Chilli sauce over it. This was certainly a hit dish, we absolutely enjoyed it. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sauce of-course, complemented the crispy fish which made it absolutely delicious.

D E S S E R T

Tapioca with Shredded Coconut and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This dish was served as square slices of tapioca with coconut shredded over it and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. The tapioca tasted really good! We were quite sceptical at first but thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. It went great with the ice cream too.

Water Chesnut in Coconut Milk, something we’ve tried and tested in various thai restaurants. This dessert helped cool down our systems after a hot and spicy ride from appetizers to soup to main. So in that sense, it really was welcomed and enjoyed.

Service:
The service was exceptional. We were given our seats with zero waiting time. Our orders were taken and brought to our table in reasonable time. The servers themselves were also quite courteous and made our visit truly comfortable.

Cash Outflow:
For the entire experience, definitely worth the money and surely deserves another visit.
